A year of yoga online
Twelve months since we were first locked down. Fifty two weeks since I taught in person. More than three hundred and sixty five days since I went to a yoga class in a studio.
So what has been the experience of this year of yoga online?
For my own practice there have been many positives. While I crave hands-on adjustments and the shared energy of a shala, I have been so fortunate to practise six days a week with Scott Johnson and his team of amazing teachers through Stillpoint Yoga Online.
Pre pandemic, I managed to get to Scott’s classes or workshops once every couple of months at best. Daily access to his teaching and inspiration has been such a gift. A silver lining and a grounding anchor in these turbulent times.
My practice has also become a family routine rather than a personal one. My children come in and watch when they get up in the morning and as a result perform complicated asanas unprompted (far more easily than I do!) when playing in the garden or rolling around inside.
A cuddle during savasana is everything. I wouldn’t recommend the occasional, unexpected foot tickles during upward facing dog though.
Online teaching has been an interesting experience. I’m so grateful to and proud of my students for persevering with their practice in this new way. It has been something of a journey for all of us. Online lessons will always be an option for anyone wanting to practise with me. But I cannot wait to be in the same room as real life people once again. Connecting, sharing and evolving.
